Varadero north shore (Bacunayagua reef, Coral Beach, Puerto Escondido reef, Faro Maya reef, El Mapita reef)
Locate only one hour east of Varadero you will find the Bacunayagua's reef offering beautiful hard corals, soft corals, and sea fans (yellow or purple) they make up a wonderful seascape inhabited by many fish such as barracudas, spotlight parrotfish, doctor fish, snappers and many more!
Bay of Pigs (Caribbean sea)
Located one and a half hours from Varadero, most people know the ‘Bay of Pigs’ (Bahía de Cochinos) from the US-backed covert operation that took place here on April 17, 1961. Today, the bay is a friendlier environment featuring ideal wall diving conditions directly from the shore, making transport by boat unnecessary. Its crystal-clear waters reveal surprising species of corals, sponges, and schools of colorful tropical fish.
Bay of Pigs Cenote cave dive: (Experienced divers only)
Between Playa Girón and Playa Larga you´ll find the Bay of pigs Cenotes system (Yes like Mexican cenotes) – Geological formations created when the roof of an underground river collapses, leaving natural pools connected to the sea by a system of immersed tunnels, and specifically Cueva de Los Peces Cenote (Cave of Fishes) is packed with an impressive variety of tropical fish.
